Singaporean film( Ilo Ilo)

Ilo Ilo is the first Singaporean feature film to win a prize at Cannes (the Camera d’Or), and it quickly picked up 25 other awards at film festivals around the world, including two prestigious Taipei Golden Horse awards for “Best New Director” and “Best Screenplay.”

The story is a domestic drama, with an addictive hint of soap, avowedly autobiographical and based on the director's own childhood experiences of being cared for (along with two siblings) by a maidservant from the Philippines: the title is a Mandarin phrase meaning "mum and dad not at home". Interestingly, the little boy at the movie's centre is an unspeakably obnoxious brat: imperious, manipulative, slightly obsessive-compulsive. Perhaps all film directors have a little of these qualities somewhere in their pasts.

Taiwanese movie

this week we watched Taiwanese movie.
Taiwanese romantic movie are always sweet and pure like a fresh wine.
"In those years, we were chasing the girl had open"this  sentence comes from  a Taiwanese filmmaker. Since 2002's "Blue Gate" Taiwanese film gradually tend to a class of small fresh style.
so today i want to compare and contrast two Taiwanese movie <our times>and <You are the apple of my eyes>

1. main characters

BOYS: both of two movies the actors all look like bad students. they  like make joke with the girls. they all looks handsome. but different is in <our times> the main actor's skin looks darker then <you are the apple of my eyes>'s main actor
.

GIRLS:both of these two movies's main actress look cute and sweet. they look like the girl live next your home. but the different is in movie<you are the apple of my eyes> the girl has a great grade. however in movie<our times> the girl doesn't work hard at the first.

2. song
<those bygone years> VS <our times>

<those bygone years>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KqjgLbKZ1h0
<xiao xing yun>
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kg-mW8SyNVg
theses two songs's mv are link to the original movie. so after you watching the movie, when you listen to the song you will have your own feeling about the movie.
and the different is <those bygone years> is tend to sing together in KTV
but <xiao sing yun>is more comfortable to listen in mp3 as you sit in a peaceful place alone.

3 longline

girls always say something against our truth point.
so maybe when you hear  these two movie longline you will agree with that.
it says a lot of girl's heart. which i think boys can learn a lot from these two movies.

Japanese movie

this week we are watching Japanese film

Japanese film is leading Asian films. whatever artistic level or Japanese movie always much higher than other Asian countries. Japanese film like explore of human nature and human heart faint land. and there are many Chinese directors like to follow them them, such us zhang yimou, hou xiaoxian .

talking about Japanese film. there are 3 worlds are jumping in my mind: blood, serious, bright. we all know Japanese cartoon is popular all around world. their movie either. Japanese animation movies are fantastic, for example: Chibi Maruko-chan,  Little Forest Summer & Autumn and so on they all are high quality movies. and Japanese like to combine their national spirit in the movie so when i am watching Japanese movie i am  clearly know that this is Japanese style.

reflection on IL MARE

this week we watch movie IL MARE. this movie shot in 2000. that is amazing. because the script and the lighting and the color still good in nowadays.

it is a romantic story which talks about Sung-hyun, who just moved into ' Il mare ' receives a strange letter. The letter is from a young woman in the year 1999, two years from the present. Her predictions about the past are amazingly accurate. Her warning about a flurry of snow on a certain day in January of 1998 and the ensuing flu virus turns out to be true. Eun-Joo is convinced that her letter has traveled back in time to December of 1997 and starts writing regularly to her newfound pen pal. A professional voice actor, Eun-joo asks Sung-Hyun to find her long lost cassette recorder at a train station. Sung-Hyun goes to the train station and gets a glimpse of Eun-Joo, who of course, has no idea who he is.(http://kissasian.com/Drama/Il-Mare)

My opinion: this is an excellent movie. it is about a wonderful time travel and time portals. And acting and music in this movie is also excellent. And after watching this movie i feel it is a bit ahead of time. This movie's script is awesome. But if cannot understand ending. Maybe i need watch again, and then I can understand what is happen after car accident. And I like the house which is build   on lakeside. That is so romantic. After i doing some research I find that Hollywood remake this movie. So we can see how successful this movie did.

reflection on detective chinatown

we are watching detective chinatown in this week.
detective chinatown is an awesome movie.it is reflect on not only characters also the storyline.
because it is Chinese movie so i want to use Chinese to write this reflection.

reflection on “black mirror”(week6)

“black mirror” is a wonderful  tv programs. which is using British humor in the series. the key word in all series is "technology "。 this tv series has a big courage to mordacity the social phenomenon in nowadays. and it also get a huge successful.

black mirror is dark and creepy. it makes us reflection what technology bring to us. it is really good we are using artificial intelligence in our life everyday every minutes. what happen in the future. what happen if our phone become a robot and lose control in the future?

After watching the first episode, I was shocked about the negative reviews it received. I'm going to be honest, it wasn't what I expected but that doesn't make it bad. It was very dark, and very shocking; Had me completely on the edge of my seat throughout. You will have to watch it with an open mind as it is somewhat distasteful and well... extremely far-fetched (Which is pretty absurd for a satire, but I digress.) I did thoroughly enjoy it however, it hit all the right notes.

After watching the second episode, I was left in shock about the jarring contrast from the first episode. It's so different than the prior, it's set in an alternate reality and is just.. unusual. Still dark, still intriguing, but didn't quite capture my imagination the way the first one did.
The third and final instalment was probably my favourite of the 3. It was again, completely unrelated from the previous 2, but it had a really interesting concept and narrative, and was executed phenomenally.

All in all, the series as a whole is very interesting, if somewhat inconsistent.

week7&8 HK CINEMA

in week 6 and week 7 we talk about HK movie. The symbol about Hk films are "kong fu"and "gun fu".

my reflection about hk cinema

the main character in Hk movie always be gangsters. they are might not good guys. they might be called "son of bitch "by other guys. but they have a gold heart. and conflict must be something push he no way to go then he argue in himself. one day he notice he is a hero. he can save this world although he is a small character.

when i talk about hk movie i always relate to a world-- exaggerate. some hk movies are really exaggerate. directors like using gun in hk movie so you can see gun in every senses start to end of movie. the most funny thing is that, this gun the character uses he even doesn't turn the bullets. so when you watching hk gangster film, you will see the characters walking into the location where bad guys lives. then they take out guns opening fire."bang bang bang bang ..."all bad guy dead but our main character is lossless. how could it happen, but, actually, it is happen in the movie.
in 1990s it is the best ages for hk films. there product a lot of good directors and actors in that ages, such as jackie chen, donnie yen, john woo. they like playing with Chinese tradition kong fu and show them on the screen. and there are also a lot of hk film company to support them. so they get enough budget and passion to make film.

hk movie get a huge successful in that age. i still remember when i was a child. i always see a lot of teenagers they copy the make up and characters's dress even their the way they walk and speak from the movie. they learned how to smoke, how to fight just like characters show in movie"young and dangerous". each boy has a dream is own a gun. they all believe they are hero, one day they can save this world and find a beautiful girl love her than abandon her. although it is sounds funny now, but that is the memory of that age of people.
 movie "young and dangerous"

The French New Wave(week 5)

What is meaning of "The French New Wave"?

With an emphasis on invigorating cinematic narrative, French New Wave Cinema rejected traditional linear tropes of storytelling and created a new language of film.

The feature of The French New Wave

The movies featured unprecedented methods of expression
Also, these movies featured existential themes
Tight budget

About Wong Kar-wai

He is a Hong Kong Second Wave filmmaker. His movie always about romantic. he shows  unique visual, highly stylized, emotional in his film. His famous movie including Chungking Express, Fallen Angle, 2046, In the Mood for Love and so on.

The relationship between Wong Kar-wai and The french Wave

Wong Kar-wai was affect by Jean-Luc Godard, Alain Resnais,  Eric Rohmer and Akira Kurosawa which all are the stand for The French Wave.
some people say that  Wong Kar-wai is the successor of Jean-Luc Godard. because both of them like wearing sun glasses. and they don't have a script when they are shooting. they like use editing to explain the story. and people always compare  their film together.

Alain Resnais has a movie <Last Year in Marienbad>. it use X, M, X to stead of characters's name. Wong Kar-wai's movie <Fallen Angle> also use this way. and some shots in Alain Resnais's movie<Les heroes folles> also familiar with Wong Kar-wai's movie<Chungking Express>

Wong Kar-wai is a fun of Eric Rohmer

About Chungking Express

this film separate by two stories which all written and directed by Wong Kar-wai

storyline:

The first story stars Takeshi Kaneshiro as a cop who is obsessed with the break-up of his relationship with a woman named May and his platonic encounter with a mysterious drug smuggler (Brigitte Lin). The second stars Tony Leung as a police officer who is roused from his gloom over the loss of his flight attendant girlfriend (Valerie Chow) by the attentions of a quirky snack bar worker (Faye Wong). (link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chungking_Express)

about shots angle:

it is use very different angle to explain the story such as long tracking shots to fellow characters and explore the character's inward world.

my comment

i still remember the first story there is a angle is that the actress is running and camera  hold camera running fellow her. through this angle i even cannot see anything, but i can feel the upset atmosphere. these shooting technology they use can catch  audiences's eyeball and make them focus o

week 3 Italian Neorealism

this week i watch the movie Ladri di biciclette. its english name is "The Bicycle Thief".

this movie shows the story about a poor man he gets a job. this job must to have a bicycle. when he is doing his job, someone stolen his bicycle. so that he will lost his job and he cannot feed his family. after that he and his little son search everywhere in their town. at last he doesn't has choice he want to stolen others bicycle. but he is catched  by other people.
i think this movie shows a lot of society. poor people how they live. it reflect the fact that during that time european is really really poor.

and the most moment  chilling me is that the little son see his father stolen other guy's bicycle. i can see his emotion is sad, unbelieved, surprise. then his father is cathched by someone. he run to his father and hold his hand. i know his forgive his father. he know the situation about his home. at the and, he and his father walk into roman crowd. nobody know how they survive in this poor ago.

The Italian neo-realist film movement began around the end of WWII with Roberto Rossellini's OPEN CITY in 1946. It is defined and encapsulated by this striking film directed by Vittorio De Sica.this movie is stand of Italian style. in post-war 2 italy poverty is a dire reality for large portion of population. work is the most hard question that government must to solve it. show this movie is quietly one of the finest films ever produce.

MONTAGE

what is the meaning of montage?

Montage (/mɒnˈtɑːʒ/) is a technique in film editing in which a series of short shots are edited into a sequence to condense space, time, and information. The term has been used in various contexts. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Montage_(filmmaking))

WHAT ABOUT MONTAGE MOVIE?

at the first time movie was shooting start at the begin until end. whole movie no cutting no editing. but  there was a movie called "life of an america fireman"shown on screen. although it just 6 mins ,it still has a lot of new technique used in that movie such  close up , shack back  and so on. it is an successful experiment about cutting and editing. and after that time there an other movie shows up "the great train robbery"came out. it used narrate to make a movie. and it also a now technique skill for creative a movie.
http://www.tudou.com/programs/view/hex8mabgCyg/(the link of the great train robbery)

what i think about what is the meaning of montage?

firstly, the actors whole body no need to show on screen
secondly, using cutting and editing to connect the storyline.
thirdly, using lens to create a relationship between different location and timetable. and let audience can understand what happen in the movie.

German (MOVIE Dr.Mabuse, der Spieler)(WEEK2)

this week i watch a movie it names Dr.Mabuse, der Spieler. it is belong to German impression. this movie is talking about a criminal genius Dr.Mabuse, der Spieler who use different kinds of ways to make money. through whole movie there is no speaking. all the communication shows by title. and because there is no voice so the director must to use music translation the rhythm sensation of the movie. this movie just has two color black and white. so lighting is one of most important element

in this movie. director use a smart and interesting technique perform the lighting that is smoking. all the people in the movie like smoking. they smoke all the time. so the smoke shows the nature lighting  of the lighting effect. not only lighting the angle shot in this movie also quite interesting. i still remember one scene. Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler he stand on the stage, other people stand under him. they are telling about coffee and coco bean market fell down and they must sale develops. all the businessmen are talking and moving. but Dr. Mabuse just stand on the stage, because he control all the situation.and it is a low angle through this scene audiences know the character of our main character. watching this movie makes me a lot of fun. it is combine exaggerate, humorous and satire which reflect the sociality of that age.
